Windows may display this error when an external drive is used that has caching enabled. It is recommend you disable caching on the external drive by performing these steps.


The below information is provided for reference purposes only.  

  1. Go to Device Manager in the Control Panel
  2. Expand the "Disk drives" tree, right-click on the external hard drive and select Properties
  3. Go to the Policies tab
  4. Un-check the box next to "Enable write caching on the device" and click "OK" to disable the feature


Alternatively, check that you are using the correct cable to the external hard drive as at least one user previously reported this to be the cause of error. It may occur due to outdated drives, damaged or loose USB connection, mechanical or SMART disk errors, unsafe drive ejection, system crash or abrupt shutdown, etc.
