There are three different types of FTP servers and FTP connections:
- FTP servers (not encrypted): SyncBackPro, SyncBackSE and SyncBackFree can use basic FTP servers. For security reasons it is not recommended to use unencrypted FTP servers (unless it is for internal use on a Local Area Network).
- FTPS servers (encrypted): SyncBackPro and SyncBackSE support implicit and explicit connections to FTPS servers. These are FTP servers that can use encryption for communication. They also support advanced features such as MODE Z, UTF8, and MLST.
- SFTP servers (encrypted): Only SyncBackPro can use SFTP servers. It is recommended that SFTP servers be used instead of FTP/FTPS servers as they are more secure.
An alternative to using FTP, with SyncBackPro and SyncBackSE, is to use SyncBack Touch.
