When backing up or synchronizing to Egnyte, you may see one or more of these:

- A file is copied to Egnyte on every run, even though it has not changed.

- After the run, Egnyte still shows the previous content of the file.

- Restoring the file from Egnyte gives you a different (newer) version than the one you last backed up.

The profile run still reports success.

Cause

Egnyte decides which version of a file is the current one by its modified date, not by when it was uploaded. SyncBackPro uploads each file with its real modified date. If the file already on Egnyte has a newer modified date than the file being uploaded, Egnyte keeps the upload, but only as an older version in the file's version history. The newer version stays current.

This is how Egnyte is designed to work. Egnyte describes it in their own article: File Versions.

This usually happens when:

- The source file was replaced with an older copy, for example one restored from another backup, extracted from an archive, or copied from another computer with its original date kept.

- The file on Egnyte was changed after the source file was, for example in the Egnyte web interface, by another user or by another program, and SyncBackPro then overwrites it with the source file.

Solution

Use any one of these:

1. Give the source file the current date. Open the file and save it, or run this PowerShell command (change the path to your file):

   (Get-Item "C:\path\file.ext").LastWriteTime = Get-Date

   Then run the profile again.

2. Delete the file on Egnyte, then run the profile again. The file is then uploaded as a new file.

3. Restore the version you want in Egnyte. In the Egnyte web interface, open the file's version history and restore the version you need. Egnyte gives a restored version the current time, so it becomes the current version.

After you use one of these, the next run copies the file once and later runs no longer copy it.
